ZABER white paper:
S-Curve Motion Profiles for Jerk Control
,
Do you have a sensitive motion application, where a smooth acceleration of your stages is critical? This article about jerk-control might be of interest to you.
What is "jerk" in motion control?
Jerk is the rate of change of acceleration. An S-curve motion control algorithm varies acceleration gradually, limiting jerk and producing a characteristic "S" shaped curve when plotting velocity vs. time.
These smoother accelerations of S-curve motion offer many benefits including:
- reduced noise
- reduced vibration
- increased lifetime
- reduced overshoot
These benefits are particularly useful for low stiffness applications where cantilevered payloads, liquid payloads, or belt driven systems are present.
