Human Capital Agenda

The LBSP Foundation and Leiden University of Applied Sciences are working together to research future labour market demands at LBSP and how this relates to programs that are currently on offer at the LBSP. The multi-year Human Capital Agenda for and by LBSP will be developed in the coming months. The project will be led by Fennand van Dijk and Nico van Hemert of StrategyOnDemand and will be completed this summer.

Contact Fennand van Dijk for more information:

fennand.vandijk@strategyondemand.nl / Phone: 31(0)6535 86490.

Sandra Migchielsen is the new programme manager of CIV Bio Sciences

Sandra Migchielsen (sandra_migchielsen@hotmail.com) started on 1 March as the programme manager of the Centre for Innovative Craftsmanship (CIV) Bio Sciences. Sandra studied at Leiden University and obtained her PhD under Dinko Valerio. As a cluster manager at the Amsterdam Economic Board, Sandra constructed the LSH cluster with her partners there.

In her new role as programme manager of CIV Bio Sciences, one of Sandra’s goals is to develop LBSP's Lifelong Learning Ecosystem which focuses on intermediate vocational and higher professional education. In late 2021, the CIV partners signed an agreement cementing this plan with the Economic Board Zuid-Holland.

The Leiden2022 Life Sciences & Health (LSH) week

The Leiden2022 Life Sciences & Health (LSH) week that runs from Saturday 28 May to Sunday 5 June starts to take shape. With a combination of conferences, openings and public events, it will be a perfect opportunity to show what we have in store at the LBSP. The following events are planned at this stage:

The LSH week kicks off with the Public Regenerative Medicine Day on Saturday 28 May. This day is organized by the Dutch Science Agenda (NWA) and offers a platform for everyone interested in this exciting topic. Would you like to contribute? Then contact NWA via NWA_Reggen@lumc.nl.

The Museum Night on Saturday 28 May is a perfect occasion to discover Leiden's unique museums including Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, Naturalis and CORPUS. There will be a special Leiden2022 LSH program.

The exhibition Technophilia is on display from 16 March until 29 May at the Art Gallery of the LUMC. It portrays a futuristic world in which nature and technology have literally adapted to each other and have grown together. A lecture on this topic will be held in the LUMC Art Gallery on Sunday 29 May.

The TK Challenge Bio Science Park Run will take place on Sunday 29 May at 15.30. This 5-6 km run through the LBSP is open to everyone and ties in nicely with the prevention and lifestyle theme of the LSH week. The revenues of the run will go to Willem Alexander Children's Hospital in Leiden. Contact info@tkchallenge.nl for more information.

The scientific part of the LSH week will be officially opened on Monday 30 May with the Global Impact in Health Symposium. The importance of international academic, public and private partnerships in solving global health threats will be discussed during this symposium.

The EUFEPS/FIGON DMD Annual Meeting will take place from 1 to 3 June with the theme 'Boosting sustainable drug development in Europe: Top science below sea level'. Check out the website for more information and the program.

Join us on 2 June after work at the Life Sciences Café at Naturalis. We are very excited to organise our monthly network drinks in collaboration with unlock_LiveScience, EUFEPS/ FIGON DMD and Naturalis. Register here.

Best practices on how to boost biotech innovation in the Netherlands will be discussed at the Bridging Dutch Biotech from Bench to Business event at Naturalis on 2 June. Main topics will be Entrepreneurship, Knowledge Transfer, Financing for startups and Support for startups. This event is organized by HollandBio, Planet B.io and Johnson & Johnson Innovation.

The installation Folding Life from artist Ana Oosting will be opened on Friday 3 June at the LUMC Art Space. This artwork is inspired by protein structures and is produced in collaboration with the LUMC research group of Meindert Lamers.

The (inter)national symposium Leiden Headache Center into a new era on 4 and 5 June provides an overview of the latest findings and treatment options in the field of headache. It provides the latest insights into various important headache diagnoses, headache mechanisms, and the latest treatment options. Participants will go home with knowledge about the state-of-the-art research findings and treatments for headaches.

LBSP Campus update

Improved traffic situation Willem Einthovenstraat (Oegstgeest)

Construction at the Oegstgeest side of LBSP comes with a good deal of traffic hindrance, jeopardising road safety.

Liander, BMS and Leiden University are working together to clear the road of building materials. Work is also currently taking place on the road verge and the pavement. The public lighting in the area is expected to function properly soon. For questions, please contact Maurice Wijnands.

Hartlijn update: construction continues
The Hartlijn is becoming increasingly visible to passers-by. The outlines of the cycle path and the yellow footpath are clearly taking shape alongside the TNO premises. The trees that have been transplanted to their new location along Zernikendreef also contribute to this. Construction on the footpath on the Archimedesweg side will start at the beginning of March.

Boost your potential with entrepreneurial thinking

Developing an entrepreneurial mindset can help with many aspects of your personal development, even if your idea does not result in a start-up. Entrepreneurship education can teach you how to seize more opportunities and use your curiosity to find innovative approaches to difficult problems. You can apply this knowledge at every level, whether you are considering entrepreneurship, part of a start-up or scale-up or even managing a larger biotech company. The facilities needed to develop your entrepreneurship are already here. Together with PLNT and BioPartner, the unlock_ team provides relevant workshops and training courses for all entrepreneurial minds in the Leiden region.

Would you like a better understanding of the personal opportunities that come with starting your own life sciences & health company? Or are you a manager at a growing biotech company looking to train your team and help your company grow? Get in touch with us at hello@unlock.bio to see what we and our partners can do for you.

Introducing our team members, Fieke Koelemij

“Immense growth is happening at Leiden Bio Science Park and our start-ups are an important part of its development.

I love being able to communicate this progress and share moments of impact in life sciences and health.”

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey, this is me!

My name is Fieke Koelemij and I joined the unlock_ team back in September 2021.

I graduated from Leiden University last year with a master’s degree in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences and Business Studies.

I was first drawn to Leiden’s ecosystem of entrepreneurship during my second year when I undertook an entrepreneurship elective. This led me to pursue an internship in marketing and communications at PLNT Leiden.

After completing my studies, I was offered an amazing opportunity to combine my work at PLNT with unlock_, specialising more in life science marketing and communications. The best part of my role is hearing and sharing all the achievements of our start-ups and scale-ups. Connect with me for any news and events related to life sciences and health entrepreneurship!
