Technological innovations and the persistent curiosity to explore the world around us have characterized Vaisala from the very beginning, reaching from land to space. Vaisala’s innovative technology will soon land on the surface of the Red Planet once again as part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program, in collaboration with Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).The star of the new Mars mission is the Perseverance rover, equipped with different measurement devices. One of these is the MEDA (Mars Environmental Dynamic Analyzer) device package that includes a measurement instrument designed by FMI. The instrument is based on Vaisala pressure and humidity sensors, used to gather accurate readings for the study of the Martian atmosphere.

The FitCheck® Mode shows in real time how the tight fit of the respirator changes during put on and wearing, which helps the user to select the correct mask and to find the best fit more quickly. Video animations show employees how to make the correct movements during a fit test to ensure a consistent test experience. Globally, there is an increasing awareness of environmental health, and the quality of the air we breathe. This awareness has put pressure on those generating pollutants, like fugitive emissions, to increase their monitoring, control and reporting activities.

 

Fugitive emissions are pollutants released into the air from cracked seals, pipes and other unintended areas. Examples of these emissions are fine particles (PM10 and PM2.5 and PM1.0), aerosols and dust, which impact outdoor air quality.

Methane is one of the most significant greenhouse gases.  In order to slow down global warming, emissions have been successfully reduced for a long time. Due to the different compositions in a landfill and the continuously decreasing methane production all processes must be monitored.

 

Portable landfill gas measurements with thermal sensors or vane wheel sensors


Our thermal sensor is the right sensor to determine gas mass flow. If the gas composition is known it directly delivers gas mass flow due to the calorimetric principle of measurement. Actual flow rate can be measured with our vane whel anemometer. Measurements are possible even in small pipelines and in lower velocities. For portable measurements both sensors can be connected to our handheld units flowtherm NT.2 or EX.

 

Fixed landfill gas measurements with robust vortex sensors

 

Another important measuring point in a landfill site is the collecting pipe. It’s where the entire gas flow from all wells comes together. In such a constant measurement condensate can cause heavy fluctuations with the thermal sensor. So in cases like this our vortex sensor is the perfect instrument. Is special type without any moving parts is perfectly suited for rough conditions such as contaminated or condensate-laden gas.
